Good morning,
I'm running a quasi-static mooring analysis in Moses and the wind is the only load I'm assuming. I'd like to understand something more about the wind result.
In the report I read the status results, something like that:

What I'd like to know is:
-How can I understand the point where the wind is acting?
-How can I read the windage area (for any angle of attack)?
Can anybody help me please?
Here attached a .rar file containing .cif and .dat files.
Thanks
Pietro

Hi Pietro,
Nice to hear from you.
The following commands will report the areas in the body x, y and z plane. This will include a center for each panel. In your model the cargo has one panel in each face. This makes the table easy to read. For more detailed models the number of panels will increase and the table will grow.
&summarycompart_SUM properties panelsend
There is not a command to report the windage area for any angle of attack. You are reporting the wind force for heading 0. You will have to back calculate the area from this report.
Please keep in mind the command ¶meter -af_environment. That will change the way the wind force is used.
I hope this helps.

Hi Georgina,
It is a pleasure hearing from you.
Thanks for your advice. Let me say I'm a little bit surprised that MOSES doesn't report the windage area; anyhow, I'm using
and I'm rotating the model (in .dat file) any 45 degrees.
Do you think that's could be an "effective way" to read the windage area?
I think I'll go like you showed me, please find the files attached.
PietroWINDAGE.rar
Yes, that will report the projected areas.
It looks like you need a few more meters of draft for the box to be submerged.
I hope this has been helpful.
Thanks for your assistance, you always let me find a solution.
Anyhow, I hope it will be created a command to read the windage area in the future.
Thanks again
Georgina,
One simple question, is moses always use Knots as units for wind speed?
Or it depends on &dime -dim meters m-tons?
Thanks and regards
Hi Nafuat,
I cannot make a blanket statement about units. Please use the &status env to generate a report of the wind velocity. It will have units. In the hydrostatics menu the rarm report includes a row with wind velocity. This covers most of the uses of wind. If I have missed one, please let me know. I will see research how to report the value and units.
