Criteria Analysis Error

When I do the Large Angle Damaged Stability Calculation for  a few damage cases where  starboard side is damaged, I get failure in the Result though margin % is positive.  I get this error for the damage of a few tanks. When the damage is in the starboard side but vessel is heeled to port side, I get this error. But for many other starboard tank I don't get this error. The same error happens for the same damaged condition but in port side and if I heel the vessel in starboard direction.

Error Message Damaged Compartment

Could you please tell me why is this happening? Is it a problem? I cross checked many times. I see , doing the equilibrium analysis, that
1. Heel angle at equilibrium in intact condition is zero in Intact Condition
2. Heel angle at equilibrium in Damaged Condition  is 0.1.
3. I see that Latest version of Maxsurf has Heel side direction options in the criteria settings

I am confused why is this problem occurring?

  • Hi, Due to change some settings or something I once got Pass in the criteria which were showing failure earlier. However, I am not sure how I have got this. Could you please precisely tell me how to do this and is it okay to do this? Is there any hidden feature that needs to activate?

  • Hi Ku Ru,

I think the proper fix here is to heel the vessel in the opposite direction (Analysis | Heel and check the Heel to Port box)

Technically, we should only allow this to pass if the equilibrium angle is positive. We do have a small threshold so that a vessel that is slightly negative equilibrium will still pass. My suspicion here is that your vessel is just on that threshold.
    You could test by:

     - Show the maximum decimal places by holding the shift key whilst clicking on Help | About MAXSURF Stability.

     - Test your model and shift the TCG slightly (i.e. edit your lightship TCG) to see if small changes will make the vessel pass / fail.

    Regards,

    James
