Maxsurf Resistance - Trimaran Form

Hello to everyone,

How can I calculate the resistance for a trimaran boat form?

I created my model as trimaran in maxsurf modeler correctly, but I can't find a part in the resistance module where I can choose the trimaran.

Thank you for your answer.

Best regards.

  • Hi Mehmet,

You have two real options here:

    1) Use the Slender Body Method, ensuring you define the three demihulls in Analysis | SB Analysis Geometry.

       - Read the manual from page 25 onwards.

       - You will need to determine a suitable trimaran Form Factor

    2) Analyse your main hull and demi-hulls separately and sum the resistance.

       - This won't account for the interaction between demihulls.

One of the great things about the Slender Body method is that you can calculate the far field wake pattern (Analysis | Calculate Free Surface) and observe how the hull / demihull wakes interact. You can use this to help locate the hulls differently.

    James
