I thought I had a student license and am trying to authenticate it but it only says I have access to a trial license which has expired at this point. I saw the previous issue posted 3 years ago and the answer did not help me.

Sorry - looks like this question got missed. Did you get it working?
I'm a bit confused by your licencing tool - As as Student / Academic licence you should have access to MAXSURF Ultimate and none of the others. Have you had your academic licence working in the past?
Under the Tools menu, can you run:
Tools | Refresh Policy
Tools | Send Logs Now
Tools | Activation Wizard (use all the default settings in the wizard)

Try what the guy above said, it might help. But if not, try to contact the support. To me, that's easier than to write study papers...
