import model from rhino to moses

Hi Immanuddin,

Is this model rigid, or is it a series of articulated cylinders that are able to move independently from each other?

You should be able to import this into MOSES Modeler using Import | Rhino 3dm.

However, to import Rhino surfaces, the surfaces need to not be manifolded. You'll need to fix this in Rhino before saving the file. I haven't used Rhino in years so I can't recall the command, sorry!

From an analysis in MOSES point of view, what are you trying to do with this? Will the pipes connecting the cylinders contribute to the motions of the vessel? If you think they won't (I would assume they won't) then you should remove them and keep your analysis model simple.

Once you've simplified your model - you'll probably find its quicker to make this in MOSES than to import it.

Hi Imanuddin,

In MOSES, all the bodies are rigid (i.e. won't bend, flex or move independent of other parts) even if the parts aren't connected together. So you could have two catamaran pontoons and not have the deck structure connecting them, but they will still move together.

So even if your cylinders aren't modelled to be connected, they will still move as one rigid body together. I chose not to model the connectors between the cylinders because I don't think they will have much impact on the motions of the platform.

I should point out that you can have multiple bodies which would allow the cylinders to move independently. So if you have two boats next to each other they can be separate bodies that move independently.

Thanks again James. I am trying to do multibody mooring analysis. So i need to set of the cylinder moor next to each other. I have modelled it according your suggestion. But i failed to used the inmodel function to call for the model

It is difficult for me to understand your statement "failed to use the inmodel function".  Is the program reporting an error?
