Hi,I would like to know the formula to determine the area for righting and heeling from moses report.Please see below attached file for you reference : thank you and kind regards,I have attached here the files for your reference.
Hi Tramyer,
Your plot shows righting arm, wind arm, and area ratio. The wind arm in the plot is tabulated with the column heading "heeling" in the text report.
The righting arm is the area under the cyan line and above the roll = 0 line. The heeling area is the area under the green line and above roll = 0 line.
I am not sure how to interpret your question. Are you asking how the integration is done? Are you asking if we use simpson's rule another integration method?
I hope this helps.

Hi Georgina,I would like to determine the formula for getting the area.I'm trying the simpson 141 but i can't get it right. I'm getting wrong values per degrees area.maybe can you show how it's done?probably in excel etc...krgds,
Let us take the righting area.
roll = 0, arm = 0
roll = 2, arm = 0.56
When I look at the curve it is close to a triangle. So I am going to use the formula for a triangle.
B*H*1/2 = 0.56
Next point
roll = 4,arm = 1.13
Simpson's rule says to add that to what was there before. Now we have a rectangle with a triangle on top of it.
rectangle B = 2, H =.57
rectagle area = 1.14
Now triangle area
B =2, H = 1.13-.56 = ,57
Triangle area, B*H*.5 = .57
Total area to add 1.14+.57 = 1.71
Total area = 1.71+.56 = 2.27
Reported on the table is 2.25. I will take that as round-off error.
You can do the rest of the points.

i got it right i forgot that it was a strainght h/3 141 the moses is doing.what i've done was wrong now i solved it right.below is my answer at 12 degree having a 20.24 area
glad you were able to figure it out
