I would like to add that the panel size should be at least 1/8 of the wavelength of the smallest wave in your simulation. This means that for waves with low time periods (and consequently shorter wavelengths), the mesh size should be smaller. As a good practice, you should conduct convergence studies to determine if your hydrodynamic coefficients (such as added mass and radiation damping) are converging with a lower panel size. If your results are converging, there is no need to further refine your panels, as it will only increase your CPU time without any advantage. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me at rahul.kanotra@inventocean.com.

Thanks,

You can define a different panel size if you wish.

DNV provide some guidance about the appropriate panel size in DNV-RP-H103. I am going to leave this decision to you.

RE: how to specify mesh size in moses ?

how you can tell the value is 1.5 , why can't it be 1 0r 2. whats the governing factor?

RE: how to specify mesh size in moses ?

Good afternoon Raj,

if your geometry was created with the PGEN commnad you can issue &parameter -m_distance to define a mesh size in metres. For example to define a 1.5 metre panel size you can issue &parameter -m_distance 1.5.
