MOSES Modelling Compartment

How to model tank as per below blue figure (plan view)?

I tried below inputs however I am facing an error. Please advise.

&describe compartment tank -cont 1.025
pgen tank1 -perm -1 -port -loc 0 0 0
plane 17.50 -cart 0 0 4 0 4 8
pgen tank2 -perm -1 -port -loc 0 -4 0
plane 26.25 -cart 0 0 4 0 4 8

Thank you...

  • Hi Ari,

Since this compartment is not symmetric about the central axis, the PGEN command is not going to be useful for modeling it. You have two options:

1.) Model the compartment in MOSES hull modeler. You can create complex geometries by using markers or other modeling features available in the modeler.

2.) If you still want to use MOSES, you can always model it using the '&DESCRIBE PIECE" command. To do that, you will first need to define the 6 corner points of your compartment, which looks like a parallelepiped in your drawing. When defining the faces, make sure that the order of points (in PANEL command) is clockwise when looking at the compartment from the outside. Please read about the '&DESCRIBE PIECE' command in the MOSES manual for further details. I have also included syntax code to define one compartment (comp1) shown below using the &describe piece command.

$Define compartment corner points in the model file
    *pt1 x1 y1 z1
    *pt2 x2 y2 z2
    *pt3 x3 y3 z3
    *pt4 x4 y4 z4
    *pt5 x5 y5 z5
    *pt6 x6 y6 z6
    *pt7 x7 y7 z7
    *pt8 x8 y8 z8
    &describe compartment comp1 $ Define internal compartment
&describe piece comp1 -perm -1 $ Describe Piece with compartment properties
    panel f1 *pt1 *pt2 *pt3 *pt4 $ bow face
    panel f2 *pt2 *pt6 *pt7 *pt3 $ port face
    panel f3 *pt6 *pt5 *pt8 *pt7 $ stern face
    panel f4 *pt5 *pt1 *pt4 *pt8 $ stbd face
    panel f5 *pt5 *pt6 *pt2 *pt1 $ top face
    panel f6 *pt4 *pt8 *pt7 *pt3 $ bottom face

Please let me know if you have any further questions.
