Whenever I open a file in the PRECEDE Module, the PRECEDE GUI is always blank.

Problem

Some users may get an error where the screen appears blank because the colors for ever element type are black. This error occurs when the user does not have read/write access to the SACS registry keys. Precede writes the display settings to the registry in order to save the display settings across multiple sessions.

You will need to modify the registry to give read/write access to:

On 64bit OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bentley\SACS56

On 32bit OS: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bentley\SACS56

Note that the key name will depend upon the version installed on the computer (eg SACS56) and may need to be modified. You will need administrative access to modify the registry settings.

Solution

Run regedit, right-click on  the SACS56 key and select Permissions… The group Everyone should have write access. The SACS installation should have set this value. Check Full Control and Read and then click Apply.

Then reset the colors in SACS.

For the SACS Legacy Modeler, the color options are located in the SACS Executive settings:

For Precede, the color options are located in the SACS Precede settings:

To prevent this problem in future installations ensure that administrative privileges are used when running the SACS setup. You can do this by right-clicking the Setup.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".
