Is it possible to create a design without trimming?
MAXSURF uses dynamic trimming. That means that as you change the shape of your hull, the intersections between your surfaces are automatically updated. As Naval Architects, we're always refining, tweaking and iterating, so this dynamic trimming is a really important feature.
However, if you make changes to the model that changes the number of trim regions, then your trimming can get messed around.
The best way around it is to design your surface layout without needing trimming. Instead of overlapping edges, we can align them (bond them) together.
This video talks through the process:
In a complex design, it's normally not possible to align edges of all the surfaces, but you can do it for groups of surfaces. I.e. Create all of the hull and deck surfaces without trimming, then all of the cockpit surfaces as another group without trimming. Then use trimming where the two groups overlap.
