Seismic Analysis - Moments Discrepancy


Question:

Discrepancy was found between the member forces plotted in the “MEMBER FORCES AND MOMENTS” table of the output listing file and the forces used for the member checks from the “Review/Redesign” dialog box in the Postvue data base directory. The member is modelled with moment releases at one end (B release 000111). The moments result zero from “MEMBER FORCES AND MOMENTS” table and are not zero in the “Review/Redesign” dialog box.

The checks are performed considering bending moments that should be zero for the presence of moment releases. 

Answer:

A seismic analysis is not a static analysis. Hence, results are valid only at the member ends and bending moment diagrams are meaningless. For post-processing such results, user need to turn on the ‘JO’ joint-only option on the OPTIONS line in the post input file.
