Soil Behavior Representation in SACS and Pile Increment

Problem

I am working on Pile soil interaction, to do so, I am using "SOIL P-Y SLOCSM " function. I would like to know what kind of model SACS uses with this function to represent soil behavior.

On the other hand, concerning pile increments, how many increments does SACS recommend? Should I use the same number of increment than the number of P-Y curve?

Solution

Nonlinear spring is considered at the top of the stratum and for any other points within the top and bottom stratum, the values are linearly interpolated.

It depends upon user’s judgement and shall be used for finite difference solution. You can also use same number of increments that you have in your P-Y curve. By default, SACS will consider 100 and user has the option to take up to 300. However, the more the numbers, analysis time would be larger.
