I am using GAP element in my SACS model file. I have generated loads in the elements and now using the combined input file to design. I have used load combination factors both positive and negative in combined input file. After code check, I find GAP elements are experiencing type forces which were not assigned when GAP definition was used in SACS model.
SACS syntax of combined input file overrides the GAP command of elements. So, in GAP run if for example, you have assigned “Tension Only” members, SACS will execute the nonlinear convergence to solve the member forces as Tension. However, in combined input file, if you have negative load case factor, the member force stored in SACS will be altered. So, the expected result of Tension force will be changed to Compression force in POST Code Check module.
