Hydrostatic collapse using LDOPT line and HYDRO line

Version(s):23.00.
Area:SEASTATE

Problem

What is the difference in checking hydrostatic collapse when LDOPT line is used and when HYDRO line is used?

Solution

In LDOPT line if you activate the hydrostatic collapse option, then Seastate calculates the hydrostatic collapse basically assuming all members are at mudline. In the listing file, “SEASTATE HYDROSTATIC COLLAPSE ANALYSIS” table reports the results for all members irrespective of whether they are submerged or not. There is no report for individual members, instead Group report is printed.  This gives a very conservative result.

On the other hand, HYDRO line uses the stresses calculated from the exact solution of the model along with the correct head which it calculates from each individual member's depth to perform these checks.

LDOPT line was introduced at the early stages of SACS development and now for proper hydrostatic collapse results it is advisable to use HYDRO and not to refer LDOPT line.
