    File Import/Export

    Product(s): SACS
    Version(s): All
    Area: Import/Export

    Problem

What file formats are possible to import and export?

    Solution

The capability to export the SACS model information in several different formats that are compatible with other software packages:

    Filename extension CAD Export
    .mac PDMS Macro File

The output data contains the joint information in the form of a name and geometric location.  The member data is defined in terms of joints and cross sectional definitions.  SACS cross sectional names are output in the file, tubulars defined in member groups are directly defined in the macro file.  The plate data is defined in terms of joints and plate thickness.

    .mac

    PDMS (Special) Macro File

The SACS joint information is not output.  Instead, the member data is defined in terms of member end locations and cross sectional definitions.  SACS cross sectional names are output in the file, tubulars defined in member groups are directly defined in the macro file.  The plate data is defined in terms plate corner locations and plate thickness.

.dat Frameworks Plus SDNF File The member data is defined in terms of member end locations and cross sectional definitions.  SACS cross sectional names are output in the file, tubulars defined in member groups are defined as TmmmmmXnnnn, where mmmmm is the outside diameter of the tubular in inches times 100 and nnnn is the wall thickness of the tubular in inches times 1000.  The plate data is defined in terms of plate corner locations  and plate thickness.
    .dat Multisteel SDNF File

The currently displayed model is output to a steel detailing neutral file (.dat) compatible with the Multisteel software package.    The member data is defined in terms of member end locations and cross sectional definitions.  SACS cross sectional names are output in the file, tubulars defined in member groups are defined as TmmmmmXnnnn, where mmmmm is the outside diameter of the tubular in inches times 100 and nnnn is the wall thickness of the tubular in inches times 1000.  The plate data is defined in terms of plate corner locations  and plate thickness.

    .dat SDNF (Special) File

This is the same as the Frameworks Plus SDNF File with only minor differences in member output.

    FEMAP Export Model to FEMAP

This allows you to export the SACS model currently open in Precede to an open FEMAP document.  You will need to have FEMAP running and a document open to which you wish to import the model.  This will generate tubulars in the FEMAP model for all the SACS tubulars in the model.

.dxf DXF File The currently displayed view is output to a DXF (drawing exchange) file that is compatible with the Autocad software package.

    Filename extension Analytical Export
    .cdb ANSYS

The currently displayed model is output to an ANSYS model file (.cdb) compatible with the ANSYS software package.    The joint, structural elements and structural loads are output into the ANSYS model file.

    .$PJ Bladed File

The member data is defined in terms of member end locations and must be either a tubular, concentric tubular or a cone.  Member outside diameter, wall thickness, member orientation, cd coefficient, cm coefficient, offsets, material density, Young's modulus, shear modulus and mass are also output to the bladed file.  The following member stiffness parameters are also output to the bladed file: axial stiffness, torsional stiffness, Y direction bending stiffness, Z direction bending stiffness and polar inertia.  The plate data is not output to the bladed file.

    IModel IModel Export to IModel.
.pipelink AutoPIPE The output to a .pipelink file that is compatible with the AutoPIPE.
.struclink Strucklink Database File The currently displayed model is output to an Access database file (.struclink) compatible with the STAAD and ProSteel software packages developed by Bentely Systems, Inc.   The member data is defined in terms of member end locations and cross sectional definitions.

    Filename extension Image Export
    .jpeg JPEG

The currently displayed view is output to a JPEG (joint photographic experts group) file.

    .hmf Hoops HMF

The currently displayed view is output to a HMF (Hoops metafile).

    Windows Clipboard Windows Clipboard

The currently displayed view is output to a Windows Clipboard file that is compatible with the Microsoft Windows system.

The capability to import data in several different formats generated in a variety of other software packages into the SACS system:

    Import File
    Seastate File

A seastate file containing environmental data in the SACS format may be imported.  If any specific seastate data being imported already exists, then that data is ignored, leaving the currently defined data as is.

SACS Model File A SACS model file containing model data in the SACS format may be imported.
PSI Input File A PSI (pile-soil interface) file containing pile data may be imported.
    Logging File

A logging file generated by this program may be imported and the commands residing in the file executed.

Steel Detailing Neutral File An SDNF file generated by any one of several software packages containing model data may be imported.
    FEMSYS Neutral File

A FEMSYS neutral file generated by FEMSYS and containing model data may be imported.

    List Input File

A list input file generated by this program that contains lists of objects may be imported.

    Strucklink Database File

A struclink file generated by STAAD or ProSteel and containing model data may be imported.

Import FEMAP File A FEMAP Neutral File that has been exported from FEMAP can be imported to SACS.
