Compression & Tension Capacity Considering Pile Weight

Product(s):SACS
Version(s):All.
Area:PSI

Community Question:

Hello Bentley I want to ask you whether pile weight is considered in the calculation of pile capacity in PSI. I mean Does SACS minus the pile weight from compressive capacity and then plus pile weight to the tensile capacity?

Answer:

The appreciation is correct when the pile material density is considered in the card PSIOPT column 73-80, SACS subtract the weight from the capacity compression and in the tension capacity is added, in the next picture you can see the difference using and not using the density of material in the piles

Net Capacity

Maximum capacity in compression = -67169 kN

Maximum capacity in Tension= -56180 kN

Weight Pile = 2067 kN

Considering  Weight Pile

Capacities considering the pile weight

Capacity in compression = -65107 kN

Capacity in Tension= -58232 kN

Weight Pile = 2067 kN
