Community Question:
Hello Bentley, I would like to know how SACS gets the Flexural Slenderness and Flexural Buckling Factos, and how the elastic critical moment (Mcr) when is working with the Eurocode
Answer:
You can get the value for Flexural Slenderness using the formula in the code Eurocode 3.1993.1.1.2005 section 6.3.1.3 Slenderness for flexural buckling and this depends on the classification of the section.
For the Flexural Buckling Factor, the formulation is the next and this depends on the type of section to analyze
The elastic critical moment for lateral-torsional buckling Mcr can be calculated using the next formulation
Where
E = Elastic Modulus
Iz = Moment of Inertia
G = Shear Modulus
J = Tors. Constant
Cw = Warping Const
Ly = Overall Buck. Length
Ky = Eff. Length Factor
C1 = This value is given in Table 6.10 for end-moment loading and may be approximated by the equation

where ψ = ratio of end moments in the segment
