Load COG adjustment for Tow

Product(s):SACS
Version(s):All
Area:Tow

Problem

I am using footprint weight command to generate some equipment load which is located at a higher elevation than the connection nodes in SACS.

How to cater the exact CoG of the load when I generate the Inertia Forces using Tow module in SACS?

Solution

Skid loads are distributed as joint and member loads by Precede when the loads are created, so the vertical center of gravity of the equipment will be the elevation of the supporting members. If it is important that the vertical center of gravity be modeled then the resolution to this is that you could try using a tee-pee structures to model loads at the correct COG. These structures are essentially a node at the COG location with the reported weight or load at that node with rigid, weightless members connected to the primary structure. Typically the rotational degrees of freedom for the members are released so that you don't get additional moment in the primary structure. This will ensure that the correct load is applied at the desired COG. The load will remain at that elevation for all subsequent analyses.
