Interaction between Autopipe and STAAD PRO

Hi,

Is there a clear procedure explaining how to EXPORT models done in STAAD towards AUTOPIPE.

Which is the best practice , creating the frame beams in autopipe or STAAD?

  • Hello Ayman79,

    AutoPIPE is shipped with multiple tutorials both inside the Online help and also PDF files located in the Program folder\Documents. In this case there is a PDF file called "PIPELINK_tutorial.pdf" in the Documents folder.

    Please review this file for a tutorial on:
    PIPELINK (Workflow 1) AutoPIPE -> STAAD
    PIPELINK (Workflow 2) – Multi User
    PIPELINK (Workflow 3) – STAAD -> AutoPIPE
    PIPELINK (Workflow 4) – STAAD Displacements -> AutoPIPE

    Be sure to refer to the online help for full details on commands mentioned in the PDF file.

  • Hi,the PDF was quite useful.
    I managed to export the AUTOPIPE model to STAAD , however I noticed that only the gravity,thermal and pressure load cases had been sent same as written in the non-code comb. what about the GT1P1 ??
    The PDF says that i should highlight the "Generate default non-code descriptions" , I tried that but still only the 1st three loads were transferred.
  • Hello Ayman79,

    Only the load cases (ex. Gr, T1, P1) are transferred to STAAD, and not actual combinations (ex. GRT1P1). The reason is Structural load combinations are different to Piping load combinations including different factors applied to different types of loads so only the load cases are transferred.

    Furthermore, see page 18 of the PDf, Transfer Piping Loads to Structure, where you will see that the "Generate default non-code descriptions" are automatically used as the STAAD Load Name.
