Surely this will be a significant factor when performing a dynamic analysis of a large bore line completely filled with liquid.
What is the argument for/against support friction in dynamic analysis?
Thanks, Nick.
Hello Nick
Firstly we cannot handle non-linear effects like friction in our Dynamic Solution so could not currently include them if we wanted to. With regard to friction LC Peng has some advice in one of his on line papers 'Treatment of Support Friction in Pipe Stress Analysis'. He recommends that the omission of friction is a conservative approach to dynamic analysis, since its inclusion would result in lower stresses and equipment loads.
We are looking at improving the dynamic solution to include non-linear effects, mainly to include the gaps.
