Under the help section of Base Supported Elbows option 5 is recommended. I was wondering why it was the recommended case, specifically regarding the use of a beam and rigid option from the midpoint as opposed to a rigid option from the far point of the bend. If anyone knows the answer I would appreciate knowing the answer. Thanks.
Hello Joe,
Considering modeling per fig 1.2.6 b, one can use model approach 2, 4, or 5. Of those methods, model #5 would be the best approach. This approach can be used to capture the radial thermal expansion of the bend and any thermal growth of the trunnion. Where the method that your are describing will not capture this movement.

Hello Joe, Per AutoPIPE help: . In this recommended model, a short rigid beam member is used to connect a pipe segment to the bend. Otherwise, the program will think that it is a Tee type component.
