Flange Check - Analysis tab -> Notes

In previous AutoPIPE editions, I was somehow able to find the meaning of the various notes that the Flange Check window gives after analyzing various flanges, under the column "Notes". Where has this option, or this info, gone? How can I find the meaning of such notes?

For my case, the calculation shows as an example the note "Gasket, (SH+SR)/2" which accompanies a ratio of 1.174. Where can I find the meaning of Gasket, (SH+SR)/2, and all the other output texts, in AutoPIPE's help?

  • Hi HVN, thank you for your question. I do not recall a page that had definitions for these notes (which doesn't mean that it did not exist, just that I was unaware of this page). Do you have any information on this page, e.g. the title it had or any language in the contents of the page that I can do a search on?

This note column will display the location in the flange report that is producing the highest ratio, regardless of pass or fail. For the specific error you are seeing, the average of the longitudinal and radial stresses are producing the maximum ratio of 1.174.You should be able to see this in the flange report, section 3.2, subsection "Gasket Seating Conditions".

  • Hi Joshua, no, I dont have any further information, but it was in the Help I think. I can be wrong however, not sure ...

Anways, my question would then be; is there a place (maybe in the help file) where it is documented what the notes mean, e.g.  what does (SH+SR)/2?

  • HVN,
The notes are there to direct users to a location in the flange report that may need reviewing. If you are asking where, for example, (SH+SR)/2 definition is in the program help, I do not know. I can certainly look into it and add a help topic that outlines all notes and what they represent in a future AutoPIPE release if that's okay. The specific warning message you are receiving is telling you that either your longitudinal or radial stress is too great for the gasket configuration you have defined.

  • Ho Joshua, yes, it would be truly helpful if the help file could be expanded so it gives a listing of all possible notes, and more important: what they mean. Would that be a possibility?
