Relief valve

Hello, I hope somebody could help me.

Regarding the example, I'm comfused, becuase the example that is included in the software "AP50SR2" has a Force at the elbow end.

I followed the steps "Executing Steam Relief Example (ap50sr1)", and I don't know if I have to consider the Force in the combination results.

I suppoused if I follow the Problem Definition, I could have the final results without any other force, but when I get the report I could see that the force is in other combination case.

I'll appreciate if somebody could answer.

  • ¿If I have to consider also the combination of that induced force? or
  • ¿the force  is included in the combination of Time History?
  • Also I have doubt because in the case of Time History has a positive reaction, when I expected a negative value in the anchor.

Thanks, Guillermo Pérez

  • Good day to you Guillermo Navarro,

First I noticed that your model name was AP50SR2.DAT, I could not find that in the example folder for AutoPIPE. I was able to locate AP50SR1.DAT, but not AP50SR2.DAT. what version of AutoPIPE are you using? (8 digit number).

Next, please be sure to read all the documents under the Steam Relief example for complete details on this example model:

The major bit of information being:

A 4" safety relief valve (4" inlet / 6" outlet) with a 8" non-integral vent discharge line is mounted on the steam line.

Review AutoPIPE help "Steam Relief Method" for a better understanding of thrust location on relief valve discharge piping configurations (ex. non-intergral).

Furthermore, recall from your Dynamic AutoPIPE training classes and AutoPIPE help information, all dynamic results are +ve, therefore it is recommended to consider both directions of the dynamic load in the combinations, i.e. GR+R1 and GR-R1.

Lastly, the force will be included in the time history by configuring the Dynamic analysis time history settings (ex. File 1 = C02). If you review the Time History profile and location commands you can see how and value of the loads being applied.

  • Thanks a lot by your assistance, I appreacite.

Sorry by confuse you. I renamed the filename as "R2", the versión of autopipe is 12.02.00.14.

I understand that you mention... But What about the last combination where is included the Force "U1" , That is my confusión, last combination created in the example, “GRT1+U1”.

    So, if I understand well,
    • I have to create a new combination GRT1-M1, .. That is OK.
    • Is not necesary to add the Reaction Force?

    (this one)

And, ¿Do I have to delete the combination of GRT1 + U1, in order to do not show in my reports?.

I'll really appreciate your answer again.

    Regards.

    Guillermo Perez.
