How to model a lateral expansion joint based on the Manufacturer's data

Hello,

I need to include a lateral expansion joint in piping model, based on the data provided by Manufacturer.

Could anyone give me instructions how to do it step by step, including modelling the geometry of the flexible joint and defining required input data for calculations.

I'd like to use the specific lateral expansion joint, shown in attached data sheet, marked in red rectangle.

  • Greetings Grzegorz Zielinski ,

    Suggest one of the following:

    1. Review Hinged Expansion Joint modeling Approach in AutoPIPE help

    or

    2. Using the "Tied Universal Expansion Joint" from AutoPIPE help as a bases, model the joint with beans and pipe as described in the literature. Be mindful when adding the pinned beam, release the end point in the correct direction.

Note, the beams were best guess in selecting a reasonable shape and size from the beam library.one could customize the beam elements as needed.
