Buried Pipe Result Model Options Confusion

Greetings,

i have a question regarding the Buried Pipe Result Model Options. In the help, there is the following:

What calculations are these referring to? I do not see any changes in stress results. Sorry if this is obvious: my background is with CSA-Z662 where there are no such options. Thanks!

  • Greetings Taylor,

This is all about soli parameters. As you know soil properties can change significantly across given terrain. Therefore, AutoPIPE provides a method of evaluating how sensitive a model is to different ranges of soli conditions with extreme high values, extreme low values , or an average of the 2 extreme values. The parameters are used by the Soil Calculation method selected on the Soil calculator dialog.

On the soil calculator dialog, choose the calculation method, enter soil parameters, but note the columns for both Low and high parameter values. Then when setting up analysis sets, one could specify a specific soil stiffness value ( low, high, average. ) to be used during the analysis.

Again, if there are severe changes in results with identical analysis sets, with only different being soil stiffness settings. Then suggest to review all soil parameters to be correct, and to know the actual result can range across that calculated by the program.

  • Mike,

Okay, that helps. We always generate three Static analysis sets (one for each soil value) so we could leave this as low and be alright. Thanks,

    Taylor
