Greetings,
In B31.8, Section 833.10 is a buckling check. According to the AutoPIPE documentation, the upheaval buckling check in the soil identifier only works on piping with a perturbation like an over bend and nor straight sections where Euler buckling. I just want to confirm that AutoPIPE does not have another check to comply with Section 833.10 and that we need to do this as a separate formula. Thanks,
Taylor
Hello Taylor. Thank you for your question. As of AutoPIPE 12.5, B31.8 does not consider wall buckling. However, the 12.6 project, which is currently under active development, is slated to introduce the following buried piping stress categories: circumferential wall bending stress (ALA), ring buckling pressure (ASCE 2001), seismic + thermal stress (ASCE 2001), building settlement stress (ALA), and buoyancy force on buried piping (ASCE 2001). More information will be provided in the program help along with the 12.6 release.
Note that this will be for onshore only, not for B31.8 chapter VIII.

Thank you very much! B31.8 has two methodologies: a strain based and a stress based. I gather 12.6 will use the latter, is this correct?
Yes, our calculations determine the through-wall bending stress and critical buckling pressure of the pipe.
