Import the exported *.mdb (both Input Database and Result Database) back into AutoPIPE? Any alternative?

Hi,
my company needs to make some automated changes to AutoPIPE model - a simple example would be automatically filling in all the characteristics of elements (e.g. suports) based on their tag (the tag would be the only info the engineer has to input manually). That could be easily accomplished by our program modifying "something" exported from AutoPIPE and then importing it into AutoPIPE again.

The *.mdb exports seem like a good fit for this scenario (it's not vendor-specific, easily read by humans, easily processed by software,...) except AutoPIPE can't import the once exported files. This strikes me as strange but so be it. I am wondering if there are any other recommended formats for such a job (Caesar neutral file is another candidate but IMHO it's much less suitable for automated manipulation).

Or maybe I am missing something and approaching the problem completely wrong. Any input is much appreciated. Thanks.

Jaromír.

  • Greetings,

Please see comments below for response to your posting:

    • Currently NTL is the only way for you to be able to export your model, make changes and import again into a new file
    • Can you help specificy which of the things you would typically want to modify in the model? Or it can be anything / everything as in a generic databse import that compares against the current model and incorporates all changes back to original model?
    • We are currently working on a prototype data API that should let users and other developers program against using python or any other programming language to read and write data to an AutoPIPE model. This is current a work in progress and first release maybe available in 5-6 months. We will be looking for users who maybe interested in trying it out and beta testing. If you are interested, please let us know by submitting a Service Request and mention this page.
    • We also have a SQLite database for all our reporting but that is also a 1 way export from AutoPIPE.

  • Thank you, Mike, you are very helpful.

    • I will look into the NTL format, it's not as accessible as the *.mdb files but still might do the trick.
    • There are many such things to programmatically modify. A simple example would be automatically filling in the Stiffness of a Support based on its tag (the engineer would enter only the tag and my software would look that support's stiffness up in our database of all supports and modify AutoPIPE model accordingly). The aim is to minimize the number of things you have to enter by hand.
    • I would love to be part of your beta-testing initiative but unfortunately, my company hasn't bought AutoPIPE yet. I was actually tasked with evaluating whether it would be suitable for our needs.

  • Greetings Jaromir,

You have an interesting suggestion. Would you mind posting your suggestions on the IDEAS wiki page where the whole of AutoPIPE community can vote on it and have direct response from CAE Development team on it. Remember the more votes on a particular item the faster it will be implemented.
