Force and moment

Hello everyone,
I have some queries regarding force and moment in results.

The force and moment in results are internal force/moment to resist the movement/deflection of the pipe, or external force and moment cause deflection of the pipe.

Pease gives me clarify and example expanaton.

  • Greetings,

As a new user I would urge you to take the time to go over all of the links on the WIKI here

In this case, please see the following AutoPIPE help section:

Help ribbon> Contents button> Contents Tab> Reference Information> Results Interpretation> Pipe Forces and Moments: Global Option.

  • I have read it, but that is not my question. In the help, there are explanations about cross-section of the point and force/moment. Otherwise, I would like to know how autopipe calculates the force/moment amplitude and direction. whether the force/moment is internal force/moment,which resists the external force or external force/moment, which causes the motion to the pipe.

  • Greetings,

Per information in help location mentioned in my previous posting clearly says:

"At any point in the segment, the cross section for pipe force output is obtained by removing all of the segment up to that point as shown below. The pipe forces and moments act on the exposed cross section."

If one questions what is meant by " act on the exposed cross section". Suggest creating a simple test model to completely understand what is happening with the program.

In this case a simple Anchor, 2 runs of pipe, insert various concentrated forces and moments opposite end of the rigid anchor, and insert reference points observing in both directions.

Finally, run an analysis and review the results (Forces and moments sub report and Reference Point sub report).

From this small exercise, we now understand how AutoPIPE calculates the force/moment amplitude and direction.
