How to provide Bolt Pre-Tension?

A bolt pre tension has to be provided in the Flange check, but there isn't a feature to provide the same in autopipe? Is it possible to declare the bolt pre tension?

  • Greetings Nagaarjun Sridhar,

Best to post any new enhancements like this to the AutoPIPE Ideas page, select Ideas tile at the top of the page and post your idea there. This will enable the whole of the AutoPIPE community to vote on your idea. Ideas with a high number of votes will be added to the program faster than through normal process. Also, know that these ideas are sent directly to the AutoPIPE Program manager for review.

Note, depending on your Flange Analysis Method, the results report indicates among many other things both a Bolt Tensile stress and stress due to internal loadings.

  • Thank you Mike for the feedback. I have raised it in the Ideas page.

I understand that the bolt tensile stress are being displayed in the result report, but they are analysed based on the load case/ condition we modelled. However my requirement is to provide initial/ additional bolt pre tension due to bolting the nuts to a certain degree of bolts SMYS (e.g, 50% or so,..)

  • Greetings,

Good to hear that you posted the IDEA, title = Bolt Pre Tension

For everyone else that believes this is a good idea, please vote for n support of it. Again, more votes for a given idea will add the feature faster into the application.
