Reference points

Hello,

Fairly new to Autopipe, I'm modeling some piping runs that will be connected with flexible hose. I need to know the displacements at either end of where the flexible hose will connect to and wanted to use reference points to track the displacements. Looking at the dialogue box, it looks like you can only set it up to monitor forces. I have data sheets for maximum displacements for the hose and was hoping I could also put in restrictions to set off a warning if the connection point has to much movement for the flexible hose. Can reference points be setup to track displacements? there will not be anchors at these points.

Cheers,

Cam

  • Greetings Cameron,

Reference point was originally designed for monitoring nozzle forces and moments, to see if they exceeded a set allowable value. You are correct, Reference Point was not designed to monitor displacements between node points. We realize these shortcomings.  Please note that AutoPIPE 12.09 will have a new report specifically for expansion joints. In the meantime the only options is to manually review the delta difference across a expansion joint using the displacement results and MS Excel. If you like to be notified when this feature is released log a service request, mentioning this page.

Adding a new feature to the reference dialog to evaluate displacement kind of sounds like a good idea. Suggest that you log it on the Ideas page here for every one to vote on.
