Siphonic PVC pipe system

Good afternoon

We are making a stress analysis on a storm siphonic system with PVC 1120, and we found this article about modeling PVC on AutoPIPE:

Model Plastic Pipe in AutoPIPE - PlantFLOW Files - AutoPIPE - Bentley Communities

We think the simplest method is applying the ASME B31.8 method however this standard is for gas, so can it be applied changing the settings and values to ASME B31.1?

Or using ASME B31.3 method, would be the only option (with standard AutoPIPE)?

Thanks

  • Hi Mike

Thanks for the clarification; about the code, we didn't received a request on using 31.1. We look for a procedure to follow on AutoPIPE, and based on the procedure using 31.8, we look for one that can be used with water.

After checking these, we came out with another question:

When it is specified 1120 in AutoPIPE, what type of fittings are considered by the software? Because AutoPIPE mentions only generic fittings, and we would like to know if they are pressure or DWV fittings

Thanks a lot for the support

  • Greetings,

You had mentioned "When it is specified 1120 in AutoPIPE, what type of fittings are considered by the software?"

This is not clear to me, where are you specifying 1120 in AutoPIPE?

Always best to be very clear on exactly what you are doing instead of making statements that leave room for interpretation. I am guessing you are talking about  specifying a material. If that is the case, AutoPIPE is going to use the material data from the library to populate the information on the Pipe Properties dialog and the Pressure / Temp/ Pipe id tab of the input grids. The library does not provide information to any other part of the program.

Next, there is no method of specifying a fitting in AutoPIPE. One can take the time to build a fitting with the various components in the program, but one can not just select a DWF type bend.
