Force and Moment from Modal Analysis

Hello,

I have extracted the results from modal analysis. The results look like the following picture.

As you seen in the table header, there are FX1, FY1, FZ1, MX1, MY1, MZ1 and FX2, FY2, FZ2, MX2, MY2, MZ2. So, I have two questions.

1. What does the number end of the FX, FY, FZ, MX, MY, MZ mean?

2. Displacement of each modeshape as shown in modal analysis result based on mass normalization. So, whether the force and moment of the result are the actual loading or not. Do they have unit, such as N, N*m or dimensionless?

Thank in advance

  • Greetings,

    The following are defined as: FX1, FY1, FZ1, MX1, MY1, MZ1 and FX2, FY2, FZ2, MX2, MY2, MZ2

FX1 Force in the X-direction acting at the first point (PT1). MX1 Moment in the X-direction acting at the first point (PT1).
FY1 Force in the Y-direction acting at the first point (PT1). MY1 Moment in the Y-direction acting at the first point (PT1).
FZ1 Force in the Z-direction acting at the first point (PT1). MZ1 Moment in the Z-direction acting at the first point (PT1).
FX2 Force in the X-direction acting at the last point (PT2). MX2 Moment in the X-direction acting at the last point (PT2).
FY2 Force in the Y-direction acting at the last point (PT2). MY2 Moment in the Y-direction acting at the last point (PT2).
FZ2 Force in the Z-direction acting at the last point (PT2). MZ2 Moment in the Z-direction acting at the last point (PT2).

How did you generate this file?

Are you running a Time history?

Are you reviewing the MOD file?

What version of AutoPIPE are you using?

  • I generated this file by Export Eigen Values.

No, I'm just running Modal analysis to see modeshape as well as force and moment at each modeshape.

    What is the MOD file?

    The AutoPipe version v12.5

  • Greetings,

I would highly suggest that you upgrade to the most current version of the application, see wiki here for reasons why.

The MOD file is after checking the box on Time history, print modal results. See the folder location where the model is stored and search for a files whos extension is MOD. One can open this file with any text editor.
