selecting support

Dear Sir/Ms,

What kind of support that I should add between 2 Y-pieces (vertical Y-pieces)? I tried to add some kinds of supports (guide, incline, spring, V-stop,...) and when I added those support it affected of stress to the other locations.

So could you please recommend to select a better support for this matter!

Thank you in advance for understanding.

  • Hello Vanno,

    Now I understand.

    With regards to your question:

Based on this question, you noticed the stresses change in a different part of the model when you add a support /restraint at this location (between the y-connections). That would appear to be correct.

As you already know, making changes to or adding supports at any location in a model will ultimately change the stresses at some piping location(s) based on a given load case/combination, In AutoPIPE, with a given applied load you can evaluate the implications of what will happen to the model if a support is rigid/gapped, or added/removed.

In your model, anyone would need a good understanding of how the model is moving under a given load case/combination, then resolve a support system and/or adjust the piping routing to add more piping flexibility in order to keep the stresses below the allowable's being applied. This is the best advise I can give you.

    Thanks for your time.
