Is there a limit to the size of a model for running a time history analysis?
I have a system approximately 6000 ft long and cannot get it to run the time history analysis. No errors, the model just quits runs.
Thanks
Roger
Hello Roger3,
Depending on your time history settings, the program may still be trying to perform the analysis. Some of these analysis can take a short time, while other can take a significant amount of time. Again, it all depends on your model and settings.
Is the program having troubles with the model analysis or actually performing the time history analysis?

Mike,
Thanks for your reply.
The modal analysis runs but reaches a point where it says it can't calculate the next frequency.
Then, when I run the time history it says my time step is not small enough. When I manually enter a smaller time step the program gives me a warning saying to close other software that I don't have enough memory allocated. I have all other programs off but can't get rid of this warning and it won't allow the time history analysis to run.
Per the information provide here and without looking at the model. I would venture to guess that the computer you are using is not suited to run the analysis with the current model settings.
In addition, see the following site for E801-12: Cannot find next frequency.

Hello Mike,
Could I ask a quick question?
I have combined a Time History load with other static load. The dynamic page in the post-processing mode - does it give the results about the TH load alone? How can I make it to give me the results in steps about the combination load? I do not see an option to select different loads.
Also, the results that I see on the Post-Processing/Nodes/Displacements for the Combination load which has the TH load in it, are those the maximum results of the all TH steps?
Thank you.
