The leg mount on my vessel I am modeling doubles as a shell stiffener. The tricky part is it spans the gap between the shell and the bottom cone. I have modeled a stiffener that spans the join however it doesn't come in contact with the cone section and stops inline with the shell diameter. Is there a way around this to add a stiffener to a conical head?
As usual, it is very difficult to answer without any drawing or sketch showing hat exactly you want.
If the use of the "stiffener" is only to joint the conical head to the legs, what calculation must we do?
Please give us more details

Hi Gérard,
Thanks for your reply, I have attached a sketch of the problem. The stiffener is creating a leg mounting point however also is strengthening the transition from shell to cone. The plate used is 12-16mm for the stiffeners and the vessel wall is of similar thickness. The overall size of the vessel is approximately 550m3 with a shell diameter of 8m. Let me know if there is anything else you need to know. Also the reference point is at the shell-cone transition.

Hayden
Hi Hayden,
My answer will be in 2 points:
a) the compression and buckling of legs can be checked like for an other attachment (legs directly welded on shell or on head).
b) the stiffener will be used for the cone to shell junction calculation (inertia)
If You want I can send an example for input
