AutoPIPE Vessel - Tank Bottom Plate & Annular Plate Dimensions

Hi,

I just wanted a quick discussion on the input of Tank Bottom Plate diameter and Annular Plate measurement. My main question is: are these supposed to overlap in the model? Under bottom plate entry it asks for the "Internal diameter" dimension. Then under the Anchor window it asks for the Annular plate dimension, which, in the sketch beside the data entry it says that this length can extend past the internal diameter of the tank?

In my picture below if I enter the Annular plate dimension as 84 and internal diameter dimension for the bottom plate as 4572 i get an error for the annular plate being too small?

So how are we best to model this situation?

  • In the picture taken from Bentley vessel , the one with the bottom plates, i think that it should ask for External Diameter and not for Internal diameter. Maybe someone from Bentley could shed some light.
  • Regarding the Annular Plate:
The user can input a reduced length of annular plate in the Anchor dialog (84mm), but this is not conform to the API so an error message will be printed out in the report (see: Bottom Plate verification).
But the anchor calculation should be done without problem.

    Regarding the Bottom Plate:
The field for diameter can be renamed “External Diameter” or “Diameter”, “Internal Diameter” could be misleading for a circular plate, but this is just the name, it does not impact on the calculation.
  • Thanks Sudip,

My set up is with the Annular Plate/Base Plate as one in the same where 4740mm is the OD and 2370mm is the radius.

So from your response, can I say the way I originally modeled my Tank with the values as I have done in the screen shots "Annular Plate [A]": 2370mm and "Internal Diameter": 4740mm will give me the closest realistic analysis?

Am I correct in thinking that AutoPIPE Vessel looks at the Annular Plate and Base Plate in separate calculations and dimensions give in each (even though overlapping) will give the best result?
