    Item #1

    Answer:

Adding new materials, updating and loading database

    Item #2.

    Answer:

Input user defined material factor of safety for changing design allowable stress as per various codes.

    Item #3:

For fixed heat exchangers acc. EN 13445 the thermal expansion coefficient shall be in acc Annex O of EN 133445, if not listed in the EN material standard. Use the program these Annex?  If not where are these expansion factors from?

    Answer:

    In the Material database (\Config\Material.emdm):

For a EN material, if there is no value in the table "Thermal Expansion EN Ref" the program will use by default the values entered in the Table "Thermal Expansion Ref:"
These default values come from CODAP Code.

    See below an example:

Note: the Material database is a customizable file, the user can change/update the tables.

    Item #4:

    Q. How to create a small material database for a few select list of materials and merge it to another database?

    Answer:

Creating a small material database is very useful since it can be easily transmitted by email and also be conveniently loaded or merged to an existing database, which is explained below.

As an example we would create a material database for ONLY SA 738 materials grades A, B and C.

    1. Open the “Material Database Dialog” (Execute>Manage Material Database)

    2. Modify the norm of the applicable materials eg. SA 738 Grade A

          • Edit the new SA738GRA (follow Item #1 for instructions on how to add, edit material in database)

          • Change the Norm “ASME II” into “ASME 2” (or something else, it’s just to differentiate with the other materials so that they can be separately queried)

          • Apply Change

          • Do the same for the other grades ie. SA 738 grades B and C.

    3. Make a query to select your materials:

          • Sort by Norm

          • Include All

          • Where Norm

          • Is = to ASME 2

          • And Norm

          • Is = to ASME 2

          • Create the Report as shown in the image below:

This would query only the SA 738 materials since ONLY they have Norm ASME 2 and not ASME II

     4.  Create a new material database file including your materials (eg. SA 738) only:

          • Click on “Move Found”

          • Choose a name for your file, Save

     5.  Load your new database file and restore the correct Norm:

          • Click on “Load Database (.emdm)” and select the database that was created in Step 4 above

          • Check that there are only 3 materials loaded.

          • Edit SA738GRA

          • Change the Norm “ASME 2” into “ASME II”

          • Apply Change

          • Do the same for the other grades B and C.

     6. Save your changes

          • Click on “Write database (.emdm)” to make these changes in the database

          • Select your material file

    7. Merge this new small database with existing one

          • Click on "Load Database (.emdm)" and select the main database where you want to add the smaller database

          • Then click on "Load Database (.emdm) and Add to opened" and select the database that you want to merge

          • Observe that the small database now merged with the main database

    Item #5:

How to delete an existing  material from the database?

    Answer:

Select the material and click on Erase, then click on Write database. Alternately you can query and click on Delete Found and Write Database.

    Item #6:

How are the nominal design stress under normal operating conditions at test temperature and design (calculation) temperatures calculated in AutoPIPE Vessel for material P355NL2?

    Answer:

    For P355NL2:

fa = nominal design stress under normal operating conditions at test temperature.

fTd = nominal design stress under normal operating conditions at calculation temperature.

fa is equal to min(Rp0,2t/1.5,Rm/2.4) with Rp0.2t = 355 MPa and Rm = 490 MPa and consequently fa = 204.17 MPa

fTd is equal to min(Rp0,2t/1.5,Rm/2.4) with Rp0.2t = 325 MPa and Rm = 490 MPa and consequently fa = 204.17 MPa

In fa, the "test temperature" means ambient but the way to define the stress is the same as for fTd.

    Where:

Rm = Minimum guaranteed tensile strength at room temperature.

Rp0,2/t = Minimum guaranteed yield strength 0.2 % at design temperature.

    Item #7:

When we open Autopipe, it gives prompt that unable to open file

    \\Path\LaocalMaterialData.tmp Try again!

When we try to load it manually, it says not a valid Material Database, load it manually

    Answer:

According to the screenshot, it seems that:

1.An old release is used (v40.01.00.09)

2.The material file is located on a distant machine (E:\...)

So, We recommend to follow the steps mentioned below.

    1.Uninstall all versions of APV.

2.Delete all files under “Puser1” folder (by default here: C:\Users\Public\Documents\AutoPIPE Vessel_40.xx.xx.xx)

3.Install the more recent release v40.04.00.008, without changing the default pathnames.

4.Launch APV and open an example model file.
