Answer:
A response spectrum analysis is used to determine the response of a structural system subjected to earthquake excitation. A response spectrum analysis uses results from the modal analysis to obtain a solution. Thus, a modal analysis must be performed before a response spectrum analysis is initiated. All assumptions made during the modal analysis apply.
Note: Only the AutoPIPE Advanced and Nuclear versions will allow specification of fifty response spectrum cases. The standard version of AutoPIPE will allow a maximum of five response spectrum cases.
Run a Response Spectrum analysis based on the parameters defined in the following locations:
Spectrum data (*.SPC) from the Response / Force Spectrum Load dialog
Modal TAB of the Dynamic Analysis dialog
Response Spectrum TAB of the Dynamic Analysis dialog
Sam analysis dialog (optional)
SAM / MRSRS Suport Group dialog (optional)
A detailed description of performing a MSRS analysis can be found in the following document:
C:\ Bentley\ AutoPIPE V8i SELECTseries\ Documents \ AutoPIPE_MSRS_Example1.pdf
(or try searching your hard drive for the file AutoPIPE_MSRS_Example1.pdf)
Note: this documented procedure can be adapted to perform a single response spectrum.
