How to model Orifice type piping components?
In general AutoPIPE is not a flow analysis program like PlantFLOW. Consequently AutoPIPE is only concerned with providing a stress analysis based on the model geometry, weight, support / restraining system, piping connections, and general loads applied.
Orifice type components are generally sandwiched between a set of flanges. Therefore, modeling an orifice component must account for weight, attachment to the piping system, assumed rigidity, and assumed thermal expansion.
Example: How to model a typical orifice plate between 2 flanges
Because the orifice plate is not adding a moment arm, thermal expansion is going to be minimal, assumed to be rigid, etc...
Suggest modeling 2 flanges with the correct connection so SIF's are correctly calculated, Then select the node point and Insert> Xtra Data> added weight enter the weight of the orifice plate (ex. 5 lbs). Done.
