Problem:

The following is displayed when entering data into the Soil calculator:

---------------------------
Bentley AutoPIPE
---------------------------
H/D is greater than 14.0.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Why and how to avoid it?

Solution:

While on the Soil Properties dialog screen , place the cursor in the Depth Field and press F1 keyboard Key. After the online help appears select the following hyperlink "Depth to Centerline, H, in":

Enter the depth from the soil surface to the pipe centerline.  For vertical pipes, this distance shall be calculated as the midpoint of the buried pipe.  This field available in the “Low” column, and read-only for the “High” and “Average” columns.  The value entered here cannot create an H/D ratio greater than 14 otherwise a warning message is shown to the user. The value of H entered cannot be lower than "-D/2" where D is the outside diameter of the pipe. The default value is 5 ft.

This is not an Error message just a note to let you know that the ratio of H/d = 14 will be used for calculations of coefficients (ex. Transverse Resistance Coefficient, Rc).
