PULS (Pulsations Simulator), originally developed by NOVA-HUSKY Research Corporation, Calgary, is a generalized and comprehensive acoustic simulation program. Its primary use is for the control of excessive steady pressure pulsation in natural gas pipeline systems. SSD Engineering consultants have added a few new capabilities to PULS, including liquid system handling. PULS elements are based on extensive research and testing done at NOVA HUSKY Research Corporation test facilities.
Acoustic analysis is performed in order to prevent pulsation problems after system startup. The program can also be used to determine modifications required to existing systems due to a pulsation problem. PULS is able to simulate the pulsation response to reciprocating compressors and pumps as well as flow-generated sources, such as control valves and vortex-generated pulsation at tee junctions. PULS is ideally suited for reciprocating compressor bottle sizing according to the American Petroleum Institute (API 618) guidelines and will evaluate the properties of natural gas mixtures using AGA-8 equation of state.
