What is the difference between the "Operating Condition" and "Gasket seating condition" in AutoPIPE Flange analysis report?
Using the ASME Section VIII Div. 1 analysis method in AutoPIPE. If you look at the code you will see there are these two conditions that need to be checked:
1. Operating condition
2. Gasket seating condition.
The operating condition is used to verify the flange design will be sufficient enough to resist the maximum allowable working pressure.Whereas, the gasket seating condition is used to verify the gasket will be “crushed” or seated in order to provide a sufficient joint.
The bolt tensile stress is a comparison of the bolt loads used to satisfy the operating condition or the gasket seating condition against the bolt cross sectional area.
