Problem:

How to print only data that meets a certain Filter criteria, other data will not be printed to the AutoPIPE's quick reports?

Solution:

After running an analysis, select Results> Filter

This is a very powerful capability for isolating only the results you need. Example, using Result >Filter criteria/Support, you can generate a report which only shows that supports which exceed 7,000 lb. Vertical load, or have pipe deflections at the support point which exceed 5" in the X, 1" in the Y, or 4" in the Z. Result filters not only save lots of time, they prevent errors from slipping through the cracks. Result filters can be combined with graphical select (Example: output report contains only the points in the graphically selected range which exceed user defined deflection criteria).

You can also use the Result >Filter criteria to satisfy a flange analysis, often engineers want to evaluate highly loaded flanges e.g. flanges with stress > 7000 psi. Define the filter criteria as: Select Result/Filter criteria/Code stress, code stress option = checked, greater than 7000. Click OK will highlight all points meeting this criterion. Clear the selection set then Select/ flanges then Result output report, check both options "Limit results to highlighted points" & Apply Filter Criteria (Result >Filter) to create a flange report with stresses > 7000psi.

HINT: Familiarize yourself with this useful capability.

Scenario #1: (Jan 2024)

Suppose the following report is printed from AutoPIPE

How to filter Supports report to print all supports where Lift Off has not occurred?

Answer:

Easy, as mentioned above, use Quick Reports> Output Results> Enable check box for Apply filter Criteria> Press Filters button> Select Support from the drop down listing

One can use 3 different approaches to resolve this issue. But first answer this, what are the criteria of a lift support? a. no load on the support, and b. displacement is +ve up off the support. Therefore, manipulate this dialog to apply filter for supports that are to be printed in the output report.

Option A: filter force acting down on the support

Option B: filter displacement Therefore, if all lift off supports are to be ignored, and FY is global vertical axis:

Option C: combination of options A and B simultaneously.

Note:

1. In this case, Vertical global axis is Y-axis

2. Change filter values used below as needed for your specific use.

3. Supports must meet the criteria settings in order to be printed in the Output report.

Option A:

Again use this dialog to filter items that are to be printed in the output report. In this case, FY (global vertical axis in this scenario) must be less than 0.00.

a. Enable FY check box

b. Select "Less than " option from drop down listing

c. Enter a value ex. -0.001 N (note: do not use 0.00 as the filter starts at the point below 0.00, thus enter a small -ve value)

d. Press OK button

e. Make sure that the Support report is located in the Right (Selected Reports) column of the dialog

f. Press OK.

g. Done!

Note the printed report does not contain the reports where lift of has occurred.

Option B:

Again use this dialog to filter items that are to be printed in the output report. In this case, DY (global vertical axis in this scenario) 0.00 .

a. Enable DY check box

b. Select "Less than " option from drop down listing

c. Enter a value ex. 0.00 mm (note: one can use 0.00 as the filter starts at 0.00 and lower)

d. Press OK button

e. Make sure that the Support report is located in the Right (Selected Reports) column of the dialog

g. Done!
