For Rotating equipment, what is the equipment's local axis directions (i.e. Dx, Dy, Dz)?
When entering Rotating equipment type = User the following dialog is presented:
Enter the allowable forces and moments in the equipment’s local coordinate axes. F and M represent the allowable force and moment values, respectively. The subscripts x, y, z indicate the local equipment axes direction. The subscript r indicates the resultant value.
However, what exactly is the Equipment's local axis and how is it controlled?
Answer:
The equipment local axis is controlled by the Shaft Axis and Pedestal Axis settings.
For each new Equipment ID, the first time through this dialog, suggest entering 0.00 values for Allowable Forces and Moments, However, enter the correct Shaft Axis & Pedestal Axis, ensure that "Generate Report" options is enable, and then press the OK button to continue. Now, create an Output Report to include the "Equipment" sub-report (shown below):
Press the OK button to view the report. For each Equipment Id and Load case the Equipment Local Axis directional cosigns are printed, shown below:
The table shows the Equipment local axis based on the global coordinates axis.
Now knowing the Equipment Local Axis re-open the Rotating Equipment dialog, select the correct Equipment Id, and update the Allowable Forces and Moments according Equipment's Local Direction:
View the report again to see if the Individual Forces & Moments at each nozzle are under / exceeds the allowable values entered:
