    02. What, if any, are known issues or limitations with rotating piping?

    Applies To
    Product(s): AutoPIPE
    Version(s): 2004, XM, V8i
    Area: Modify

    Problem:

What, if any, are known issues or limitations with rotating piping?

    Solution:

AutoPIPE rotates the piping geometry correctly. However, it does not rotate the component's directional settings.

Example, an anchor is attached to a pipe that is on the X-axis with flexible stiffnesses and thermal anchor movement specified; Trans Stiff = Dx = 1000 ib/in, and thermal anchor movement T1, Dx = 2.5 inches. The segment is selected and rotated on the horizontal plane 90 deg using the Edit > Rotate command. The anchor is graphically shown correctly on the end of the segment now rotated to the Z-axis, but the anchor's trans stiff and thermal anchor movement are still the same; Dx = 1000 in/lb & Dx= 2.5 inches, respectively. Again, the directional data is Not updated with the piping component.

    Components affected:

    a. supports
    b. anchors
    c. Concentrated Force
    d. Impose Support Displacement
    e. Distributed Load

Anything that requires a direction input

    Enhancements logged:

CAE-TR-1231: Rotate support inclined direction and imposed displacement

    TR Number: 1231
    Product: AutoPIPE
    Version: 09.05
    Area: General
    Problem ID#: 80133

    Updated Version: 09.06.00.12  and Higher.

Note: there are a number of limitation that the user needs to be aware of when rotating a model, please see the following AutoPIPE help section:

Help > Contents> Search Tab> enter "Model Rotation Limitation" (include the quotes), press List Topics button, double click on the selected topic from the list provided to see more information.

See online help for complete details.
