Problem:

The following Error message is displayed in AutoPIPE when running a Static analysis, Response Spectrum, and Modal Analysis:

E801-24: Number of MSRS groups is inconsistent with SAM case
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Why and how to avoid it?

Solution:

As the error messages implies, there is a problem with the model configuration and analysis settings, specifically with regards to the number of MSRS groups.

In the following example  model, there are multiple Response spectrum cases and the respective SAM settings:

What will happen when the entire support at A03 and matching Impose displacement settings are deleted from the model, but no changes are made to the Response Spectrum analysis set:

Analyze the model and the error message above will appear..

Question: Why does the error message appear?

Answer:

Support at node point A03 had SAM impose support displacement assigned to S2 group 1, which was used to configure Dynamic Response Spectrum analysis case no 3. When the support was at A03 was deleted, so was the SAM impose displacement information for S2 group 1. Therefore when analyzing the Response spectrum analysis case no.3, the required information was missing, thus the warning was displayed.

Avoidance:

Review the Dynamic Response Spectrum analysis dialog settings to be sure that all SAM cases and respective groups listed configured are actually on the Impose Displacement tab of the input grid. Any missing will result in the Error message being displayed3

Question: What if the support group was changed from 3 to 1 by only updating information on the Imposed displacement grid,  would you expect the E801-24: error message to appear?

Answer:

Absolutely, why?

Because the Dynamic Analysis Response Spectrum "Case No." still has the original SAM cases with spectra files defined. The User must update all respective dialogs and settings pertaining to the Dynamic analysis when making changes to the Imposed displacement Case and Support groups settings.

In addition, if one performed a model consistency check before analyzing the model, they would have seen the following:

W2143-29:Response spectrum case R1 has support group 3 that is no longer defined in model.

W2143-29:Response spectrum case R2 has support group 3 that is no longer defined in model.

etc...
