One can limit the deflection of the column in the Wind screen by entering a value in “Maximum deflection”
If no value is input, the maximum deflection will be limited at H/200 for French and German wind code and H/240 for other codes (H is the total height of the column).The value of the liquid height on tray may also limit the deflection of the column.
It’s a recommended good practice to not have an overflow due to the deflection (refer to the sketch below).
Height of Liquid on Trays:
If the vessel has trays, AutoPIPE Vessel considers that operating liquid on the trays should not overflow due to the wind loading.
The height of liquid on the trays must be input (Typical value = 5mm).
The smaller the water height the greater the thickness (stiffness) of lower part of the vessel to resist therotation.
The software calculates the angle a = atan (h/D) and that gives the maximum rotation at this level h is the height of liquid and D the internal diameter of the vessel
