Q. Understanding Software Version Number Format for AutoPIPE and AutoPIPE vessel

 Starting January 1, 2023
WHAT ARE THE CHANGES TO APPLICATION VERSIONING?
Starting January 1, 2023, an updated versioning will be used for new versions of Bentley applications covered by this policy. This includes use of version types and associated version compatibility assurances, as well as changes to the release cadence, version naming and number, as detailed below.

The full software version number consist of a 4 sections of two digit integers separated by a period character. See example here:

AutoPIPE 2023 23.01.02.03

Version number (ex. 23.01.02.03)  broken down by sections:

AA.BB.CC.DDD

where,

AA = Major Version Year release number. This two digit number changes with the year of a “major” upgrade.
Applicable range is from “23” to “99”

BB = Major Version Sequence number. This two digit number changes with the release of a “major” upgrade.
Applicable range is from “00” to “99”.

A version that may include major new features, major enhancements, and other significant changes including user experience, workflow, and compatibility. Major versions may support side-by-side installation, enabling users to run multiple versions of the application on the same machine to facilitate easier migration to a more recent version.

CC = Minor version release number. This two digit number changes with the release of an “error correction” update. Applicable range is from “00” to “99”.

A version that may add minor new features or enhancements and address issues that have been found in the software such as performance, stability, or security issues. Minor versions are released for the supported versions of the application. A minor version always replaces an earlier release of the same major version.

This minor version number will be reset to "00" when incrementing the AA or BB versions above.

DDD = Build iteration number. This two digit number is used to track the sequential and cumulative build progression of a software product through a specific development project.

Build number value is reset to "01" when incrementing any other version part

 Before December 31, 2022

The full software version number consist of a 4 sections of two digit integers separated by a period character. See example here:

AutoPIPE V8i 09.06.01.015

CC = Correction release number. This two digit number changes with the release of an “error correction” update. Applicable range is from “00” to “64”.

DD = Build iteration number. This two digit number is used to track the sequential and cumulative build progression of a software product through a specific development project.

Notes:

There are 2 software releases for AutoPIPE: 1. Commercial edition and 2. QA edition.

Open the version of AutoPIPE that you have and review the readme notes. These notes pertain to that version regardless of the license option selected while using the software. If you have the QA edition, you would have access to the QA error reports that provides extreme details about open issues, fixed issues, etc...

To know which version you are using, open the software, select Help > About to see the 8 digit version and compare it against the listing here. Any version number that is bold and has an asterisk after it indicates it to be a QA version. All other versions listed are commercial versions.
