What does the Local 1, Local 2 and Local 3 columns mean on the Results grid, Support tab?
On the Results grid Support tab, the user is provided a lot of the same data in a slightly different format. Starting on left side of the grid results are columns for Global Fx,y,z , Global Dx,y,z. After these columns are Local 1 Force, Displacement, Gap, then the same for Local 2 & Local 3, and Finally 6 more columns of data not relevant to this discussion.
Each support has a Local 1 direction based on the baring spring for that support type, but may or may not have significant data for Local 2 and / or Local 3 columns.
Examples:
1. Spring and Constant Spring support
Bearing spring direction = Vertical only, therefore Local 1 dir is Vertical, Local 2 & 3 directions are blank
2. V-stop
Bearing spring direction = Vertical only, therefore Local 1 dir is Vertical, Local 2 & 3 directions are perpendicular to Local 1
3. Incline
Bearing spring direction = User Defined, therefore Local 1 dir is in the direction direction of the bearing spring defined on the support dialog, Local 2 & 3 directions are perpendicular to that
4. Line Stop
Support bearing direction = Parallel to pipe, therefore local 1 dir is typically forward / back, Local 2 dir is typically up / down, and Local 3 dir is typically left right.
5. Guide
Support bearing spring direction = Perpendicular to pipe in 4 directions, therefore Local 1 dir is typically vertical, Local 2 dir is typically left / right, and Local 3 dir is typically forward / Back.
As Local 1, 2, 3, directions are not the same for all supports or follows the local coordinate segment direction, however they are consistent among support types.
These columns of data may confuse some users, for those people suggest to stop learning about Local columns and to continue to using the Global Fx,y,z , Global Dx,y,z columns or the Support Output report.
