Problem:

AutoPIPE shows a code combination labeled ‘Max Range’ as an expansion case…what is this?

Solution:

From the online help:

The program will automatically create a special code combination called "Max Range" that stores the results of the maximum thermal range stress case, e.g. T1 to T3, including thermal ranges from ambient temperature, e.g. Amb to T1. This option is useful when the maximum expansion stress due to thermal range loadings only is required rather than generating every thermal range code combinations explicitly.

In order to see all the thermal ranges, select "Tools> Model Options> Results> "No. of thermal ranges" option (see image below). In addition see online help for details on these options. After the settings are enabled with the correct number of thermal cases, these load combinations will be available for inclusion into other combinations as required.

Note:

Max range will not range thermal cases across multiple analysis sets. Only analysis sets with multiple thermal cases in them will be ranged and the Max range of those thermal cases printed in the results.
